About Us

Japan Federation of the Deaf LGBTQ+ was established on 6th April 2023.
The federation serves as a contact point for Deaf LGBTQ+ organizations across the country.
We hope to provide mutual support between the different organizations and revitalize the local community.
We would like to work sincerely on all kinds of issues concerning LGBTQ+.
We would like to ask for your continued support for our activities.

Greetings from the President

The Japan Federation of the Deaf LGBTQ+ is formed by groups of Deaf LGBTQ+ organizations all over Japan. We are working together on various issues to create a society where people can live safely and securely.

Throughout our long history, there have been Deaf LGBTQ+ people and parties who have fought for "sign language" and "PRIDE".

And now, are we, the Deaf LGBTQ+, able to obtain information spontaneously in our native language, Japanese Sign Language?
As Deaf LGBTQ+, are we able to live our lives as we are?

Have you ever imagined the daily life and difficulties faced by Deaf LGBTQ+ ?
Why did we have to establish the Japan Federation of the Deaf LGBTQ+?
Please take this opportunity to think about it as your own problem.

Please support us to spread further understanding of Deaf LGBTQ+ to make the society where everyone can live as they are.

2020年ろうトランスHOME設立。全国のろう者かつトランスジェンダー・Ｘジェンダー当事者のために活動。

Health

To prevent physical and mental illnesses caused by various social oppressions, we will create an environment where everyone can obtain reliable information to enhance their psychological safety and protect their physical and mental health.

Human Rights

We will continue to make requests to the government for the rights of Deaf LGBTQ+ : the right to establish their own identity, the right to live, the right to pursue happiness, and other rights. We aim for a society in which everyone can live safely and securely.

History

Deaf LGBTQ+ have existed since before the 1990s.

In Japan, activities of Deaf LGBTQ+ community has been confirmed in the 1990s.

To fight for LGBTQ+ sign language and protected LGBTQ+ sign language in our long history,
We will collect and visualize the voices of those who have risked their lives and continued.

We will also preserve materials and other resources to pass on to the next generation.

Regional Revitalization

With a network that leverages the strengths of the region,
we will form a community where no one is excluded.

We will continue to prepare a safe and secure environment in the hometown
where you were born and raised or in the city where you live.

Sign Language

We will create a society in which anyone can obtain information safely anywhere.
To achieve this, training and dispatching sign language interpreters is crucial.

By gathering voices of the Deaf LGBTQ+,
We will also translate LGBTQ+ terminology into Japanese Sign Language, our native language.

Belonging

We will create a secure Deaf LGBTQ+ place
where Deaf and hard of hearing people can belong and participate safely.

We will work for an establishment of an information support system※ at Rainbow Pride and various LGBTQ+ events nationwide.

※Providing visual information to Deaf and hard of hearing people who are unable to obtain spoken and audio information by sign language interpretation, transcription, etc.
